W.G. LUCAS & SONS, EST. 1884

We are the oldest operational sailmaking business in the UK. Sailmaking is at the heart of what we do. With over 130 years experience in the industry we carry many patterns for most boats and are of course able to design a sail to your exact speficiations.

Our sails are made and designed in the UK using the highest quality cloth and materials which means that our sails surmount the competition on durability.

Although the company is over 130 years old we have a young and enthusiastic team coupled with the assistance of outside consultants in the field of Engineering, Patterning and full CAD facilities.

The knowledge we have gained over the years from Sail making, yacht Rigging and Cover manufacturing has meant that we are a highly experienced team able to design technologically advanced Tensile Fabric Structures whilst not forgetting Sails.

We continue to manufacture personally designed sails which can be relied upon to set beautifully and provide the discerning yachtsman with many years of performance sailing both for the modern and classic yacht.

Alongside this we also design and build our custom made Awnings, Sail Canopies and Fabric Architecture to today's most modern standards and demands.

If your yacht is in the solent area (South Coast from Poole to Brighton) we will be pleased to visit to take detailed measurements and give you an indication of price.

Spinnakers and assymmetrics are always of Tri Radial construction but a cheaper cruising chute may have a radial head with 2 or 3 cross panels.

We also make a competitively priced dowser using a PRP bucket and internal sleave for control line.

We can make customised covers and awnings for your yacht or superyacht. We can supply support structures and masts in aluminium, stainless steel or carbon.

We can provide engineering calculations to give loading on the hull or superstructure. Fabric can be coated or uncoated acryllic as well as fire retardant sailcloths where required.

Stack rap sailcoats generally come with a separate snood around the mast. Lazy jacks can be supplied.
